2005-2015 : Ten years of the World Series by Renault

For the last ten years, the World Series by Renault has been offering superb entertainment on and off the track. Appearing alongside the school of champions that is the Formula Renault 2.0 and the springboard to Formula One that is the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, the Megane Trophy and Clio Cup have both added to the spectacle, as the Renault Sport R.S. 01 will soon be doing.

Featuring on-track demonstrations, fun and games for the whole family and free access to the paddock, our meetings have attracted over 5.6 million enthusiasts and diehard motorsport fans since that inaugural event on 1 May 2005.

A pioneer of motorsport since the late 1960s, Renault Sport sought to give a new dimension to its single-seater development programme, which, prior to the inception of WSR, comprised the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault V6.

Taking inspiration from great meetings such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the USA’s major motorsport events, Renault came up with a concept that was truly all-embracing. And so the World Series by Renault was born, with 72,000 fans flocking to Zolder for that first WSR weekend a decade ago.

The drivers topping the podium at the Dutch track were Enrico Toccacelo and Robert Kubica in the World Series Formula Renault 3.5 and Michael Ammermüller in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0.

Ever since those first points were handed out, the World Series by Renault has continued to delight and enthrall the sport’s stakeholders, the media and, above all, the fans. Enticed by a programme that offers more than just competition, they are treated to FI demo drives, vintage rallies, entertainment in the paddock and free admission.

Nothing short of innovative, these 100-percent Renault meetings make a splash every time and form part of a schedule that takes in the legendary locations of motorsport and also ventures to new and exciting race destinations.
