The opening round of the Italian Rally Championship, the Rally Il Ciocco also marked the start of the Clio R3T European Trophy Italia.

Overhead conditions made the event an especially testing one for the drivers, with early spring sunshine giving way to decidedly cool temperatures at the start of rally and rain then bringing a damp end to it.

Three of the five Trophy entrants took to the start line, with Fabrizio Andolfi Jr coming home first to score 28 points. The runner-up in last year’s Italian Clio R3 Trophy, Andolfi Jr finished second in the R3 class and 15th overall.

Ivan Ferrarotti, the man who pipped him to the 2014 Italian Clio R3 Trophy, took second place to pick up 23 points. After losing more than 30 minutes following an off-road excursion on SS3, Ferrarotti eventually claimed fourth place in R3 and 29th overall.

Meanwhile, three-time European rally champion and 2008 Italian champion Luca Rossetti went out on SS2 and collected just a solitary point.

The Rallye Sanremo provides the setting for the next round of the Clio R3T European Trophy International, on 8-11 April.
