Halfway through the championship and three different winners so far
For its fourth race weekend (races 8 and 9) the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup joins once again the Blancpain Endurance Series at the 24 hours of Spa this coming weekend (23 - 25 July).
This time last year the championship had seven different winners in as much races. This year in the seven races so far there were only three different winners. Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior team) won the first race in Monza. Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) won the next three races and then Delétraz’ teammate Kevin Jörg won the next two. Delétraz won the last race at the Red Bull Ring.
So far four different rookies took third place. From Fortec Motorsports teammates Alex Gill and Jehan Daruvala each finished third once, as did Max Defourny (ART Junior Team) as well as Josef Kaufmann Racing team’s Nikita Mazepin.
Martin Young (Teammanager Fortec Motorsports) : "We are happy with all the result so far and are proud of the results of our rookies. Spa will be another challenge for them, but the team is ready to help them tackle this ultimate driver’s circuit."
Alex Gill (Rookie Fortec Motorsports) #5 : “I’m really pleased to be leading the Rookie standings, that was our target at the start of the season. Spa is a circuit with so much history I can’t wait to have the opportunity to actually drive it. This event will be a tough challenge as I’ve only driven the circuit on the simulator and I think most of my championship rivals have tested here.”

Two additional teams will join the championship at Spa. The Koiranen GP team (2011 Finnish Champion) will join the remaining races this year and will bring four drivers to the race at Spa : Dan Ticktum, Bruno Baptista, Stefan Riener and Philip Hamprecht. The Italian TS Corse team will join both the Spa and the Nürburgring race weekends with driver Pietro Peccenini.
Because of the 24 Hours of Spa the races are on Friday and Saturday. Both races will be live at www.formularenault.tv with English commentary and on www.renault-sport.de with Germany commentary. Livetiming at http://www.blancpain-gt-series.com/live.
