Happy birthday Alx Danielsson
Swedish driver Alx Danielsson, the second driver to win the Formula Renault 3.5 Series title, today celebrates his 34th birthday. Many happy returns, Alx.
While 2005 Formula Renault 3.5 champion Robert Kubica was showcasing his talent in Formula One free testing sessions, an ambitious new generation was plotting to succeed the Pole as the champion of the newly created racing series.
The 2006 Formula Renault 3.5 season began with Frenchman Eric Salignon scoring wins in the opening two races, with Pastor Maldonado then prevailing at Monaco and Sebastian Vettel earning rave reviews at Misano and Spa with a brace of wins. Thanks to an outstanding second half of the season, however, in which he scored five podium finishes in seven races, four of them victories, Alx Danielsson won the title for Comtec Racing, ahead of Borja Garcia and Pastor Maldonado.
The Swede has since followed up with a string of impressive drives in a number of series. After a spell in the Formula 3000 Euroseries, he won the Ferrari Scandinavia Challenge before switching to the Swedish Touring Car Championship, the Camaro Cup and then the Swedish V8 Thundercar Series. In 2013 he even made an appearance in the Nascar Nationwide Series.
This year sees Alx Danielsson competing in Time Attack, a Swedish discipline in which racing takes the form of a qualifying session.
Happy birthday Alx, from all the World Series by Renault teams.
