On the day that the 2015 World Series by Renault season gets under way at Motorland Aragon in Spain, we would like to wish a very happy birthday to the 2008 Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion Giedo van der Garde.

The Dutch driver started his career in Formula Renault 2000 before joining the Renault Driver Development programme. Following a stint in the F3 Euro Series, he made his Formula Renault 3.5 Series debut in 2007 with Victory Engineering, while also becoming a test driver with Spyker F1 Team.

Driving for P1 Motorsport, Van der Garde took the FR 3.5 Series title a year later, scoring five wins in the course of a season in which he also performed F1 test driving duties for Force India. After a spell in the GP2 Series, he earned a drive with Caterham F1 Team for the 2013 Formula One season.

He took part in a number of F1 test sessions with Sauber last season before ending his contract with the Swiss team at the start of this year.

Giedo turns 30 today, and everyone at the World Series by Renault team wishes him many happy returns.
