Happy birthday Robert Wickens !
2011 Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion Robert Wickens is now making his name in DTM, having scored two wins in the last two seasons. Today he celebrates his 26th birthday.
The Canadian driver began his career on the North American karting scene. After a successful first taste of single-seater racing, he arrived in Europe, contesting his first Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 races at the Nürburgring in 2006.
Following a spell in Champ Car Atlantic, Robert Wickens returned to the World Series by Renault in 2007, competing in four Formula Renault 3.5 Series races.
Impressed by his performances, Carlin gave the Canadian a drive for the entire 2008 season, during which he landed his first career win in Europe, at Silverstone, and three other podium finishes in taking 12th place in the final standings.
After securing respective runners-up spots in F2 in 2009 and GP3 in 2010, Robert Wickens was back in Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2011. Taking on the likes of Jean-Eric Vergne, Alexander Rossi and Daniel Ricciardo, the Marussia Virgin Racing F1 test driver sealed the title in the very last race of the season.
That success proved a springboard to DTM, where he has been racing for the last three seasons, claiming two victories in that time and taking fifth place in the 2013 championship.
The teams at Renault Sport Technologies would like to wish him a very happy 26th birthday.
