Happy birthday Stoffel Vandoorne !

A star of the World Series by Renault for four whole seasons and a two-time champion, in 2010 and 2012, Stoffel Vandoorne today celebrates his 23rd birthday.

Born in Kortrijk, Belgium, Stoffel Vandoorne won a KF2 class title in the Belgian Karting Championship before making his World Series by Renault single-seater debut in the 2010 F4 Eurocup 1.6 championship.

The young Belgian served notice of his ability with six wins as he stormed to the title. The following season he made the switch to Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, finishing fifth in the standings in a KTR car.

Driving for Josef Kaufmann Racing, he fought out a memorable duel with Daniil Kvyat in 2012. Between them the duo won 11 of the season’s 14 races, with the Belgian eventually taking the title by ten points.

Picking up a Renault Sport grant in reward for his win, he made his Formula Renault 3.5 Series debut in 2013 with Fortec Motorsports, scoring four wins to finish second behind Kevin Magnussen. That same year the Belgian joined the McLaren Young Driver Programme before becoming a McLaren F1 test driver in 2014.

The winner of three races last season, Stoffel Vandoorne remains one of the most promising young drivers on the world motorsports scene. All the teams at Renault Sport Technologies wish him a very happy birthday.
