Louis Deletraz scores third pole
The leader in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 championship, Louis Delétraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) maintained his momentum by claiming his third pole of the season in Budapest on Saturday. The Swiss driver, who also tops the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC standings, took the qualifying honours with a time of 1:41.122 and will be followed on the start grid by Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP). Lining up on row two are Ignazio D’Agosto (Manor MP Motorsport) and Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team), while McLaren Young Driver Development Programme member and Racing Steps Foundation protégé Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) is the fifth man on the grid.
Group A
The leading rookie in Friday’s testing, Harrison Scott (AVF) posted the day’s first time, though it was rapidly trumped by his rivals. Louis Delétraz then stamped his authority on proceedings with a lap of 1:41.122, several tenths faster than the rest of the field, with Ignazio D’Agosto, Ben Barnicoat, Martin Kodrić (Fortec Motorsports) and Jake Hughes (Koiranen GP) trailing in behind the Swiss.
Group B
Try as the second group of drivers might, none of them could match the benchmark set by Louis Delétraz. Jack Aitken came closest of all, posting a time of 1:41.164 to take second place on the grid, with the Briton being followed on the timesheet by Ukyo Sasahara, Kevin Jörg (Josef Kaufmann Racing), Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing) and Callan O’Keeffe (Fortec Motorsports).

Louis Delétraz : “It’s good to be on pole. I didn’t have much experience of this track so we did a lot of work in collective testing yesterday. The team gave me an excellent car and I put in a good lap, which made the difference. I’ll need to watch the tyres in the race, and most importantly of all I’ll have to watch out at the start because it’s very hard to get past people here.”
