Meet the Renault Sport experts #5 Helping to make WSR go smoothly !

As the 2015 World Series by Renault season continues to unfold, so we continue to meet the experts who make its various championships tick. Taking his turn in the spotlight at the Nürburgring, was Track Events Coordinator Pierre-Alain Bouhet, who revealed the secrets behind managing the categories that form part of the World Series by Renault.

A mechanical engineering graduate, Pierre-Alain began his motorsport career as a track engineer, spending eight years devoting most of energies to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and ELMS. Oak Racing team manager between 2011 and 2014, he steered the stable to LMP2 wins in Les 24 heures du Mans and WEC.

After making a successful start to his career, Pierre-Alain embarked on a new challenge by joining Renault Sport as a track events coordinator, his role being to help manage the various disciplines that make up the World Series by Renault and the Coupe de France Renault Clio Cup.

His job also involves keeping a watching brief on the competition in a continually changing market. Monitoring the development of motorsport events, he sets the course that WSR must take in order to strengthen its position in the world motorsport pyramid. With a view to achieving this goal, Pierre-Alain sets up a working group at every race meeting with the teams taking part in the championships to fine-tune the strategy.

Given that Renault Sport’s development formulae put the accent specifically on a level playing field in technical and sporting terms, the tailoring of the rules in this respect is extremely important, while budget caps are also dear to Renault, allowing talented drivers to break through, make their names and ultimately progress to the highest level. “We represent a marque and a sporting ethic, which means we have to be above reproach,” said Pierre-Alain.

His main task is to build and maintain relationships with the teams and drivers. Thanks to his career background, he possesses a very solid grasp of the potential budgetary, logistic and regulatory problems that can arise. In organising the competitions managed by Renault Sport, he liaises closely with team managers and owners, the drivers and the promoter RPM.

One of the most important aspects of his job is the preparation that goes into organising meetings, with Pierre-Alain then passing the baton on to race directors once the weekends get under way.

Hailing from the endurance world, Pierre-Alain explained that he is never anything less than impressed by the scale of the show laid on by the World Series by Renault, particularly the large numbers of fans attracted to each event. As far as he is concerned, Renault more than fulfils its aim of laying on Fast, Free & Fun events, generating a passion among participants and fans that fills him with enthusiasm at every meeting.
