Designed by Hermann Tilke, Moscow Raceway is a modern and very technical track which the World Series by Renault was lucky enough to have previewed. Having had a taster during the previous round, thanks to the Ellip6 simulator installed in the paddock at the Nürburgring, the drivers were keen to get to grips with the track.

During this first Moscow round to feature on the race calendar, four Russian competitors took their places on the grid for the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. Nikolay Martsenko, Mikhail Aleshin, Daniil Move and Anton Nebylitskiy had the privilege of an abundant crowd of spectators, curious to discover the upper echelons of the Formula One feeder series.

While it was Robin Frijns and Arthur Pic who emerged victorious in the championship premier class, Daniil Kvyat thrilled the spectators. Although it was Stoffel Vandoorne who secured both pole positions, local Kvyat clinched the double in the races taking the top of the championship leaderboard ahead of Belgian Vandoorne for good measure.

The following year, Stoffel Vandoorne was able to make amends : having graduated to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, he ticked all the boxes with two pole positions and a double victory, taking his place at the top of the championship leaderboard.

During these first two instalments, Moscow Raceway has consistently seen a change in championship leader in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series and Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0. What will happen this year ? We will have the answer on Sunday evening after the two races for each discipline.
