Pole positions for Gonda and Fumanelli at Le Mans
Saturday morning’s Renault Sport Trophy qualifying sessions at the Circuit Bugatti Le Mans were dominated by Richard Gonda (ART Junior Team) and David Fumanelli (Oregon Team). The Slovakian scored his maiden Renault Sport Trophy pole to lead the grid for tomorrow’s Prestige Sprint event and today’s Endurance race, which he will begin before handing over to Andrea Pizzitola (ART Junior Team #2). Starting just behind them this afternoon will be Capitanio-Fumanelli (Oregon Team #8), who have the chance to seal the Endurance title, with Braams-Geerts (V8 Racing #4) lining up third. Unrivalled in the Elite qualifying session, David Fumanelli (Oregon Team) will head the field from Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) and Nicky Pastorelli (V8 Racing).
Prestige
The first driver to post a time, Niccolò Nalio (Oregon Team) set the pace before the session was halted when Adalberto Baptista (Oregon Team) came to a stop on the track. On the restart, Dario Capitanio eclipsed Nalio’s time only for Richard Gonda to then replace him at the top of the timesheets. The Slovakian’s time of 1:32.533 was good enough to give him pole from Dario Capitanio and Max Braams, with Niccolò Nalio having to settle for fourth, just ahead of Max van Splunteren (Equipe Verschuur).
Elite
Luciano Bacheta (Oregon Team) and Nicky Pastorelli swapped the lead in the Elite session before David Fumanelli took control with a time of 1:32.192, which ultimately secured him the Elite Sprint pole ahead of Steijn Schothorst, Nicky Pastorelli, Pieter Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) and Luciano Bacheta.
Saturday’s Endurance race starts at 16:15, with tomorrow’s Prestige Sprint race getting under way at 12:10 and the Elite Sprint following at 16:15.
