The youngest champion in the history of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Carlos Sainz broke a number of records in the discipline this year, including the most wins in a single season. The Spaniard also became the first Red Bull Junior Team member to win a World Series by Renault title.

The DAMS driver topped the podium from 2013 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 champion Pierre Gasly (Arden Motorsport) and Roberto Merhi (Zeta Corse). The season’s 17 races produced six different winners, with Sainz leading the way with seven victories, followed by Merhi with three, Norman Nato, Oliver Rowland and Will Stevens with two apiece and Sergey Sirotkin with one.

Curiously, Sainz, who also secured seven poles over the year, never finished in second or third place, with Pierre Gasly scoring a season-high eight podiums.

The French rookie was also in the points more than anyone else, scoring in 15 of the 17 races, a success rate of 88 percent.

Carlos Sainz had more fastest race laps than any other driver, however (six in total), and amassed the highest number of laps as race leader, some 45 percent of the overall race distance for the season.
