Steijn Schothorst and Richard Gonda do it again in Budapest
Fresh from pole-winning exploits in Spa, Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) and Richard Gonda (ART Junior Team) repeated the trick this Saturday at the Hungaroring. The Dutchman will head the grid for the Elite Sprint and Endurance races, and will start the latter this afternoon before giving way to his father Jeroen (Equipe Verschuur #10). Lining up behind the duo will be Ghirelli/Bourgois (Zele Racing #9) and Reip/Cebrian (Monlau Competicion #14). After dominating the Prestige qualification session, Slovakian Richard Gonda will sit on pole for the Prestige Sprint race.
Elite
First out on the track, the Elite drivers had the double task of qualifying for the Endurance and Elite Sprint races. Alan Hellmeister (Oregon Team) and Miguel Ramos (Equipe Verschuur) traded fastest times before Steijn Schothorst (Equipe Verschuur) sealed both poles with a time of 1:41.055, ahead of Vittorio Ghirelli (Zele Racing), Wolfgang Reip (Monlau Competicion), Roy Geerts (V8 Racing) and Andrea Pizzitola (ART Junior Team).
Prestige
Niccolò Nalio (Oregon Team) was the quickest out of the blocks in the Prestige session, with Dario Capitanio (Oregon Team) and Max Braams (V8 Racing) then taking control. Having barely shown to that point, Richard Gonda (ART Junior Team) then went fastest and improved on his time with a lap of 1:43.261, more than half a second faster than any of his rivals, led by Dario Capitanio and the V8 Racing trio of Stefano Costantini, Max Braams and championship leader Diederik Sijthoff.
Saturday’s Endurance race begins at 15.55, while Sunday’s Elite Sprint and Prestige Sprint races will get under way at 10.10 and 15.45 respectively.
