Vaxiviere on pole for race two

Matthieu Vaxiviere (Lotus) claimed pole for Sunday’s race at the Hungaroring by clocking a fastest lap of 1:29.221. Fresh from his win on Saturday, Egor Orudzhev (Arden Motorsport) will start alongside him on the front row, while Jazeman Jaafar (Fortec Motorsports), Roberto Merhi (Pons Racing) and points leader Oliver Rowland (Fortec Motorsports) round off the top five.

Just as he had done the previous day, Oliver Rowland was the first to emerge from the pits when the session got under way at 8.30. The Briton topped the timesheets in the early stages before Gustav Malja (Strakka Racing) and Matthieu Vaxiviere vied for the lead, with the Swede claiming it prior to an interruption prompted by an incident involving Roy Nissany (Tech 1 Racing).

Still out front after the mandatory tyre change, Gustav Malja improved on his time only to see Egor Orudhzev eclipse him three minutes from the end. It was Matthieu Vaxiviere who ended up taking the session honours, however, followed by Egor Orudzhev, Jazeman Jaafar, Roberto Merhi and Oliver Rowland.

The second Formula Renault 3.5 Series race of the weekend will start at 13.00.
