A new and open season finale at Rallye du Var
Edition six of the Clio Trophy France Asphalte will be decided next week at Rallye du Var. Run within the French Rally Championship, the competition reserved for Renault Clio Rally5 will make its debut on the event. Everything will still be to play for on the special stages around Sainte-Maxime, which will crown the successor to Anthony Fotia, Romain Di-Fante, Thomas Chauffray, Benjamin Stirling and Arthur Pelamourgues.
An iconic rally on the national scene, the Rallye du Var provides a unique setting to determine all the Clio Trophy France Asphalte titles and distinctions.
Five contenders for the title
After sharing victories this year, Julien Deslauriers Sablonnière and Yoan Corberand are the leading title contenders. Although Deslauriers Sablonnière heads to Sainte-Maxime with a slight point lead, the duel promises to be intriguing, especially as the 1.5 coefficient and the removal of the worst score could shake things up at any moment. Further back, Tom Vauclare, Paul Dachicourt, and Lucas Zielinski could still claim the title, but their attention is likely to be focused on another crown...
A destiny in the balance
Never has the Junior category been so open : four rounds, four different winners, and eight drivers still in with a shout for the title. Tom Vauclare currently has the advantage, but he can’t afford to underestimate his rivals. Among them are Paul Dachicourt and Lucas Zielinski, who won the Rally5 class in the Var last year. Alex Florenson and Jean-Claude Pietri are also in contention to win the official drive promised to the best Junior next year, as are Louis Gass, Yohan Codaccioni and Charlotte Oléa.
The winner’s fate will become clearer as the team crowned on Saturday evening will be entrusted to run their future car. Autocantal Compétition is currently in pole position with Julien Deslauriers Sablonnière, Charlotte Oléa and Sylvain Lenne. Still, David Auto Compétition wants to regain the upper hand with Yoan Corberand and Enzo Beschet. Defending champion Fun Meca Sport has not had its final say with Paul Dachicourt, nor have PH Sport, led by Lucas Zielinski and Alex Florenson, or Rageau Sport Location, led by Pascal Bérard and Emma Chalvin.
Battles on multiple fronts
The Clio Trophy France Asphalte season finale will truly put competitors’ racecraft and nerves to the test. At the top of the Jean Ragnotti Performer Classification, based on points awarded to the fastest drivers on each of the last ten special stages of each rally, Yoan Corberand will face Julien Deslauriers Sablonnière, Lucas Zielinski and Tom Vauclare in his quest for this accolade. Yoan Corberand will also be confronted by Tom Vauclare in the showdown between Groupe Bertrand and Garage Combe in the Renault Network Challenge.
In the Women’s category, Charlotte Oléa will aim for the grand slam to successfully defend her crown against Emma Chalvin, Clémentine Benoit and 2022 class winner, Élodie Rey-Gines. Meanwhile, Pascal Bérard will look to extend his unbeaten run and claim his second consecutive Gentlemen’s title despite competition from Franck Giraud, Jacques Bourrat, Laurent Lambert and Philippe Janvier.
Introduced to reward versatility on tarmac and gravel, the Clio Full Challenge will also come to an end. Christophe Truchet will have the opportunity to win this unprecedented competition, which Johan Grès and Alexandre Brossy are dreaming of snatching from him in the final round.
The Rallye du Var will be an opportunity to make a final splash this season. Among the outsiders, Yohan Roumieux, Jérôme Janny, Kévin Duc, Clément Didier and Léo Véricel are worth keeping an eye on. Loïc Scandola is another to watch, as are Arnaud Boulangé, Laurent Zambon and Mathieu Duclos. Lastly, three competitors will make their first appearance of the season and will therefore be ineligible for points : Mathias Donsimoni, Thibaut Misiek and Spaniard Juan Manuel Maña, a leading figure in the Clio Trophy Spain, who returns to France after a one-off last year at the Critérium des Cévennes.
The stage is set
A new Clio Trophy France Asphalte venue, the Rallye du Var will see competitors battle across 14 special stages well known from the French Rally Championship. On Friday, the crews will take on two identical loops comprising La Môle, Bormes-les-Mimosas, Vaudrèches and Collobrières. The latter will return the following day, accompanied by Gonfaron, Le Faron and Puget-Ville for a total of 195.96 timed kilometres. Five Clio Rally3, three Clio Rally4 and seven other Clio Rally5 will also be in action.
After the season, the Clio Trophy France will turn its attention to 2026, with the calendar to be announced in the upcoming days. The customer racing department in Viry-Châtillon and the competition department in Dieppe will also be involved in the rollout of the Alpine A290 Rally Trophy, also run within the French Rally Championship, as well as the Alpine A290 Regional Trophy, which will feature several disciplines.
